While, at one time, India relied heavily on MS Dhoni, however after he took a break from cricket post the 2019 World Cup exit, many players emerged for the spot.

India have tried out the likes of Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul as the wicketkeeper-batsman. The management has somehow chosen Rahul ahead of Pant for the shorter format of the game.

Now, seeing the team almost set and ready for the upcoming T20I World Cup, former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag believes that MS Dhoni won’t find it easy to make it in the squad.

Sehwag believes that things are looking bad for Dhoni. The 38-year old has not played a single competitive game since the end of the World Cup.

The Ranchi lad was to make a return to competitive cricket with the Indian Premier League (IPL), however, the competition has been suspended till April 15 in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Among the uncertainty over the tournament and Dhoni’s plans to return taking a hit, Sehwag believes that there is no place for Dhoni.

“Where will he fit in? With the likes of Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul already in form, especially the latter performing exceptionally well of late, I think there is no reason why we should not stick with them,” Sehwag was quoted as saying by India.com.

Not just Dhoni, Sehwag also supported Indian skipper Virat Kohli who has been facing criticism for his poor form against New Zealand.

The captain failed miserably in the ODI and the Test series as India were whitewashed by the Kiwis.

Sehwag, however, said that there is nothing to worry about and that New Zealand was the superior team during the series.

“He [Kohli] is a class batsman but that has happened to all the great batsmen in different eras be it Sachin Tendulkar, Steven Waugh, Jacques Kallis or Ricky Ponting,” Sehwag said.

“We must admit that the Kiwis were superior to us in the ODIs and Tests. In the T20s, Kiwis lost close matches. In the shortest format it is always difficult to make a quick comeback.”
