'Will do my best': Ajinkya Rahane donates Rs 10 lakh to Maharashtra Chief Minister's Relief Fund to combat COVID-19

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), there are 979 confirmed cases of coronavirus cases in the country and 25 fatalities have been reported.

Team India cricketer Ajinkya Rahane has pledged to donate INR 10 lakh towards the Maharashtra Chief Minister's Relief Fund amid coronavirus outbreak in the country.

PM Narendra Modi, on Saturday, had created the Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations (PM-CARES) Fund and asked countrymen to show their support for the cause.

Rahane's donation will go towards providing supplies to the people in need to fight against the COVID-19.

India's Test team vice-captain took to social media on Sunday (March 29) to confirm the news.

"Happy to see corporates, sporting fraternity supporting the nation during the #CovidCrisis. Today @ajinkyarahane88 donated 10 lacs to the #CMReliefFund. In the past, he has always put his hand up for farmers. Well done Jinks @CMOMaharashtra @AUThackeray," Vikram Sathaye post read on Twitter.

Responding to Sathaye's post, Rahane wrote: "This is just my tiny bit and a drop in the ocean. I will do my best to support in this difficult time. Meanwhile, stay home stay safe."

The virus has brought all sports activities to a halt and players are practising social distancing and self-isolation during the pandemic. The World Health Organisation (WHO) and the governments all around are urging people to stay at home.

Various other athletes have also come forward to help namely Indian sprinter Hima Das, who said that she will donate a month's salary to the Assam government's coronavirus relief fund.

Indian shuttler PV Sindhu, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, and wrestler Bajrang Punia have also contributed towards the cause.
