It is a record that the Nagaland Under-19 women's cricket team would want to forget in a hurry.

The team from Northeast, led by Elina, were dismissed for just two runs in 17 overs by Kerala in the Women's Cricket U-19 One Day League and Knockout tournament at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Jealgora, Dhanbad, on Thursday. The tournament is conducted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Kerala achieved the target in just minutes after Nagaland bowler conceded a wide on the first ball and then Anju Raju sealed the fate with a boundary off the next delivery.

Electing to bat, Nagaland batters survived 17 overs but nine of them got out for a duck. The only batswoman who got off the mark was opener Menka. She scored one off 18 balls with a strike rate of 5.56. The second run came off a wide.

Opener Mushkan played most number of balls — 20 — before getting out on a nought.

However, this is not the first time that a team has got all out for two. In 2012, in an Inter-District U-19 tournament organised by Punjab Cricket Association, Manasa District Association bowler Mandeep Singh dismissed Firozpur team for two. Singh took a double hat-trick, conceding just two runs.

According to the List A records, West Indies U-19 team holds the record for lowest score — 18 — against Barbados.

Earlier in the tournament, in a match played at the same venue between Northeast outfits Nagaland and Manipur, the two sides bowled 136 wides totally.

In the Northeast, football is the prime sport and cricket is trying to gain a foothold there. The teams —Nagaland and Manipur — were made full members of the BCCI only after recommendations by the Lodha Committee, which was appointed by the Supreme Court.

Cricket experts have blamed Lodha reforms for the poor performance by the Nagaland team on Thursday. Former Mumbai cricketer Kiran Mokashi tweeted: "If proof be needed tha lodha and the coa who are pushing for the recommendations in toto, has no inkling about cricket Nagaland 2 allout Kerala Women Under-19 took a single ball to chase the target down #BCCI," (sic).

Cricket expert Makarand Waingankar seconded Mokashi and tweeted, "Lodha committee recommended full membership for the NE states & accepted by SC Read this score - Women's u 9 Nagaland VS Kerala Nagaland 2 all out in 18 overs Kerala 5 for no loss in 0.1 overs".
