When the Indian pacers were ripping Tim Paine and Co with bouncers and short deliveries, their banned teammate and former skipper, Steve Smith, was winning a T20 final in Sydney.
Smith at the Sydney Cricket Ground playing for Sutherland in the final of Sydney Premier Cricket Twenty20 competition on Sunday. He scored a crucial 42 off 44 balls, that included just two boundaries, in his side's chase of 113 against St George in the semi-final.
A few hours later, Smith's Sutherland faced Sydney University in the final of the T20 competition.
Smith scored 19 off 11 balls before being dismissed by Students seamer Ben Joy. However, the former Aussie captain had done his job as his side successfully chased down University's total of 122 in the 15th over with five wickets remaining.
It must have been a weird sight for Smith, who had earlier batted in front of thousands of spectators at the SCG, to bat in front of a few hundreds in Sydney's T20 tournament. Moreover, it is likely to be the only time he will bat at his home ground as he is serving a one-year suspension from the game after the ball-tampering incident in South Africa.
