Team India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin starred for County side Surrey in their Championship game against Somerset taking six wickets in the second innings at the Oval on Tuesday. Ashwin helped Surrey bowl out Somerset for just a paltry total of 69, which meant the hosts had to chase 259 runs to win the game after the visitors put on a massive 429-run score in the first innings.

Ashwin got the ball rolling getting the wicket-keeper batsman Steve Davies caught behind, following it up with the wicket of right-handed batsman Tom Lammonby reducing Somerset to 13/2.

After which, it was just a collapse as none of the Somerset batsmen including the New Zealand opener Devon Conway could stop the wicket-flow. Ashwin accounted for Somerset skipper James Hildreth, clean bowled George Bartlett and got Roelof van der Merwe trapped in front of the wickets.

He also dismissed Ben Green as his sixth dismissal of the innings completing outstanding figures of 6/27. Despite the collapse, the visitors were still ahead in the game and Surrey could score only 106/4 in the fourth innings as the match ended in a draw.

Ashwin's spell augurs well for the Indian team, who will play the England side in a five-match Test series starting August 4 at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.

The Indian players, who were on a break after the World Test Championship (WTC) final against New Zealand will assemble in Durham on Thursday before a three-day warm-up game against a County Championship XI kicks off on July 20.
