Player fatigue, packed international scheduling, little rest between tours are often the complaints Indian cricketers make. Seldom have they fallen on the ears of the cricket board.

On the eve of the second Test against Sri Lanka here on Thursday, India captain Virat Kohli lamented that there was hardly any time between the end of the ongoing series (Dec 24) and the start of the South Africa tour (Dec 30) to prepare for those conditions.

Asked if the team management had requested for (pitch) conditions in this ongoing series similar to the ones they are likely to face overseas, Kohli said: "Yes, because unfortunately we get only two days before we fly to South Africa (in December end) after this series gets over.

"So, we have no choice but to be in game situation and think of what's coming ahead of us. Had we got a month off ideally, we would have done proper preparation in a camp sort of scenario, but we have to sort of make do with what we have."

After their series against Sri Lanka on December 24, Indian team will fly off to South Africa on December 27.

"As usual, (we are) cramped for time, which I think we needed to assess in future as well because we very easily assess the team when go abroad but we don't look at how many days we have to prepare before we go to a particular place to play.

"And, everyone starts judging players when results come after Test matches. It should be a fair game where we get to prepare the way we want to and then we are entitled to be criticised," said Kohli.

Meanwhile, taking note of Kohli's concern for scheduling and limited preparation time, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) acting president CK Khanna said the board will look into it with "utmost seriousness".

"Virat is the Indian captain and his view point on cricketing matters should be taken with utmost seriousness. We are proud how the team is performing, but if players are feeling fatigued, we need to have a broader view on the issue," Khanna told PTI on Thursday.

However, another BCCI top official, on condition of anonymity, told DNA that Kohli's comments are not entirely justified. "Look at the number of matches that India have played recently. There has been appropriate space between all the matches and series. Moreover, all this was scheduled during the old regime and was part of old FTP."

With new FTP coming up for discussion in the next ICC meeting, BCCI CEO Rahul Johri is surely going to address issues raised by Kohli, added the official.
