India captain Virat Kohli notched up his 29th ODI century in the fourth one-day international match against Sri Lanka at Premadasa Stadium, on Thursday. With this feat, Virat surpassed Sri Lanka's Sanath Jayasuriya to get to third on the list of most centuries in ODI cricket.

He is now just one behind Australia's Ricky Ponting. Sachin Tendulkar leads the list with 49 hundreds.

Virat's century came from just 76 deliveries, thereby equalling the feat achieved by Aussie gloveman Adam Gilchrist, former Pakistani skipper Shahid Afridi and England batsman Jos Buttler. Each of them have four hundreds scored under 80 balls.

Kohli also surpassed Gilchrist and Gautam Gambhir to become the batsman with second-most number of ODI centuries against Sri Lanka, his seventh. Kohli is now just one behind Sachin, who has eight such tons.

He surpassed MS Dhoni and Tendulkar on the list of most ODI centuries by an Indian captain. Kohli's seven hundreds as captain is four behind Sourav Ganguly.

Virat also left behind South African captain Faf du Plesis to become the leading run scorer in the 50-over format this year.

Opting to bat first, India lost Shikhar Dhawan early. Kohli walked in next to combine with Rohit Sharma and rampaged through 12 boundaries and one over-the-rope strike to score a 73-ball 95 so far.

Virat is also No. 1 on the list of ODI batsmen as per latest ICC rankings.
