Dinesh Karthik's spectacular finish against Bangladesh for Nidahas Trophy final sealed the win for Team India on Sunday, but it was one of the 'most unforgettable moment' of Vijay Shankar's life.

The Hyderabad Sunrisers batsman was but of the Twitter rage when he only scored 17 off 19 balls. His inability to connect put the man himself under pressure. In an interview with Indian Express, Shankar said that he kept thinking what would have happened if he hadn't soaked up dot balls.

“I keep thinking what would have happened to me if DK hadn’t struck that six and we’d lost. I also think what would have happened if I hadn’t soaked up those many dot balls, maybe we would have won easily, and I would have been an anonymous figure. I’m thankful to him for winning the match, but at the same time I’m rueful that I missed a great opportunity to win the match myself,” he said.

In the interview, Shankar revealed that after the match, he locked himself in the hotel room. But Dinesh Karthik knocked on his door and told him to not be harsh and relax. "‘I’ve been through several such instances, and if you keep brooding over it, you will have the tendency to repeat the same old mistakes. It’s the time to show your strength and take lessons from it.’ Those words lifted my morale and I could sleep peacefully,” said Shankar.

Karthik, who remained unbeaten at 29, clinched the match on the final delivery, sending a flat six over the covers. His eight ball knock included two fours and three sixes and he was adjudged Man of the Match.

Dinesh Karthik's cameo ensured a thumping four-wicket victory for India in the final of the Nidahas Trophy on Sunday.

When Shankar hit his first boundary on Nazmul Islam's delivery, it was India's first boundary in 30 balls. The contribution of 17 runs wasn't a small one given the fall of wickets in succession.

Feeling gutted for not being able to rotate the strike, to give Manish Pandey some room to play, when Mustafizur Rahman was bowling, Shankar said, "I love hitting over and through cover. It’s the shot I’m famous for. But here I couldn’t connect even a single ball."

Before returning to play Indian Premier League for Delhi Daredevils, Shankar is going to play a few matches Tamil Nadu Cricket Association League to distract himself from being the fall guy.
