Venkatesh Prasad, former India seamer and current junior national chief selector Venkatesh Prasad is the latest big name to apply for the job of head coach of Team India after Virender Sehwag and Ravi Shastri.

According to a report in Times of India, Prasad, who played 33 Tests and 162 ODIs in the 90s, will finish his three-year contract as the junior India chief selector in September later this year. Prasad has also served as bowling coach for Team India. The daily also reported that the former seamer refused to comment on the subject but reliable sources confirm that he is willing to compete against Sehwag, Shastri, Tom Moody, Lalchand Rajput, and Doda Ganesh who had already applied for the post.

The post of head coach became vacant after Anil Kumble quit following the reports of the rift between him and skipper Virat Kohli emerged.

Currently Kohli and India are in West Indies sans a coach. Sanjay Bangar, the batting coach, and BCCI general manager MV Sridhar are supervising the team while senior members like MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh are playing the role of mentors.

India, now with a 1-0 lead in the five-match series, will play their third ODI against the Caribbean side at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on June 30.
