South African all-rounder JP Duminy has announced his retirement from international cricket after the ICC World Cup in England. He will, however, continue to play for South Africa in T20 Internationals.

The southpaw who announced his retirement from Test and first-class cricket in 2017 said “the time is right” to call it quits. Not just Duminy, even spinner Imran Tahir will be retiring from ODI cricket after World Cup.

Taking to Twitter, Duminy wrote Thank you Lord for your Goodness. Been a privilege to play in the green&gold for so many years. Here’s to many more fond memories. Thanks to my teammates, coaches, support staff, family, friends and fans for the special send off with my brutha @ImranTahirSA #ProteaFire”

In a series of tweets by Cricket South Africa, Duminy said: “The last few months on the sidelines have given me an opportunity to re-assess my career going forward and to plot some goals I'd like to achieve in the future".

“I will still be available to play international and domestic T20 cricket, but would also like to invest more time towards my growing family, who are my number one priority."

“I have been privileged to live out my dream playing a sport I love, and I am forever grateful for the support I have received from my team mates, coaches, family, friends and fans throughout the years.”

He even put up a picture on Instagram and captioned it, “A day that I will certainly cherish for years to come. Thank u Lord for your Goodness Thanks to everyone for the msgs of support over the last few days, truly an honour to have worn the green and gold for so many years (hopefully not my last) thanks to my family, friends, teammates, coaches, management and our fans. Could not have had this amazing journey without your guys' support. To share this moment with my brutha Immy Bhai at my home ground was truly special. I luv you, South Africa.,”

Duminy had made his ODI debut back in 2004, but it was only in 2008 during the series against Australia that Duminy made a big name for himself.

He was known as a partnership breaker for South Africa and been a crucial player for any of the franchises he has played. Duminy has also been an integral part of the many IPL teams he has been part of.
