Ever since Prithvi Shaw was discovered in the cricketing circle, everyone knew he was different from the children of his age group.

A 14-year-old Shaw smashed 546 runs - the highest score by an Indian batsman in minor cricket - during a Harris Shield match at the famous Azad Maidan in the cricket-crazy city of Mumbai.

With every innings, he displayed a fearless and learning attitude and those two the two characteristics required to climb to the highest level.

Shaw made his India debut earlier this year during India’s home series against West Indies. He lived up to all the hype around his debut with a classic century on debut as he scored a brilliant 134 off 154 balls. His hundred came off 99 balls as he became the fourth youngest to notch up a hundred on Test debut.

Shaw bagged the Player of the Series award for his 237 runs in two Tests at an average of 118.50 as India whitewashed the Windies in the two-match Test series. As a result, he bagged a ticket to the Indian team’s flight for Australia.

India are set to tour Down Under later this month for a full-fledged tour including Test, ODI, and T20I series.

When Shaw walked to bat for the very first time in Test cricket, he needed only a few overs to attract comparisons with the legend and his idol, Sachin Tendulkar.

Speaking to DNA, Prashant Shetty, Shaw’s MIG Academy’s coach disclosed that Shaw has been training at the MIG Academy since Monday and he was lucky to have Tendulkar with him on one of those training days.

“He trained with wet rubber balls in the artificial tarpaulin laid on the cement pitch in the centre of the MIG ground. Tendulkar and Jagdish Chavan and bowled to him. As he was batting, he had the master watching him and giving him the required tips in order to prepare him for the Australia tour,” he said.

Shaw missed Mumbai’s opening Ranji Trophy match against Railways because of an injury he suffered during the recently ended Deodhar Trophy.

He is all set to tour New Zealand as a part of India A under the captaincy of Ajinkya Rahane before they join the other Indian team members in Australia.
