Australia’s wicketkeeper and captain Tim Paine heaped praises for England’s Jos Butler after the latter successfully took his side to a spectacular victory in the final ODI by a wicket.

The Australian pace duo of Billy Stanlake and Kane Richardson almost did the job for their side before Butler ensured England would clinch their maiden whitewash over Australia in ODI cricket.

With just one wicket in hand, England’s wicketkeeper-batsman Butler remained unbeaten on 110 off 122 balls as England chased Australia’s target of 206 with 15 balls to spare.

Hailing Butler as the current best wicketkeeper-batsman, Australian skipper Paine said, “He’s good, he’s very good. Right now, at the moment, he’d have to be the best white-ball wicket-keeper batsman in the world. I don’t think there are too many guys to challenge him. MS Dhoni is pretty good, but right at this moment, Jos is at the absolute peak of his powers. He understands his one-day game so well and knows his strengths inside out and just doesn’t go away from him.

He’s someone for our batters to watch and see firsthand. Those experiences are going to be really good for D’Arcy Short or Travis Head to see him and Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy at their best,” Paine, who was run out for just one runs, courtesy of Butler’s superb alertness, added.

After dominating the Australians in all departments in the first four ODIs in the series, the hosts struggled with the bat. In reply to Australia’s 205, England collapsed to 50 for 2 and then 114 for 8. England were 11 runs away from a victory when Adil Rashid (20), who had added 81 runs with Butler, got out.

However, Butler ensured England, who are going to host the 2019 World Cup, finished on the winning side. He smashed Marcus Stonis for a six before the next over was bowled maiden. In the 48th over, that was bowled by Richardson, England managed to take just three runs. The first two balls of the 49th over were dot before Butler smashed a four to end the game and series.
