Indian captain Virat Kohli is enjoying a break from cricket currently. The cricketer has stressed on the need for the public to give the players their personal space. Kohli and wife Anushka Sharma are one of the most celebrated couples in the country today. It also means that they are always in public eye.

Talking to The Week, Kohli said that people's intrusion into minute things has become a problem. Virat Kohli said that it was suffocating.

He said, "That is happening on the field, in personal lives. We cannot walk into a mall and not have cameras on us, or not have news features on us. That is suffocating. That is something I do not like or appreciate."

He said that as a performer he is ready for criticism on his performance. But, when one has stepped off the field, they are not answerable to anyone.

"You are not a professional cricketer at that time. You are a normal person, trying to have a normal dinner like anyone else. If people think you should have a certain image when you step out, I don’t believe in that. People should let cricketers have their space."

He also said that 'stump mic' recordings have got players around the world talking.

"People are trying to stir up things on the field, which is not good. It is not good for the game. Rivalries have always been there, but no one knew about them. If you don’t have rivalries, where is the fun in sports? I mean, competition is essential in sports. It is not robots playing, you have human beings playing for the country. Obviously, emotions will fly."
