There was a sense of anticipation around Arjun Tendulkar – son of master blaster Sachin Tendulkar – on whether he would generate maximum interest, and money, in the T20 Mumbai League auction in Mumbai on Saturday afternoon.

And it turned out to be just that.

First-time entrant Tendulkar Jr. was the hottest player in the auction for the second season of the league, going for a price of Rs 5 lakh to Aakash Tigers Mumbai Western Suburb after an intense bidding battle.

Interestingly, Sachin is the brand ambassador of the league, which begins on May 14 at Wankhede Stadium.

The figure is the maximum bid amount in the auction of the city league. The base price for the 19-year-old Arjun was kept at Rs 1 lakh. There was a tug-of-war between several teams to secure the all-rounder, who is a left-arm fast bowler and a left-handed batsman, in their set-up.

However, it was Aakash Tigers that successfully roped him in despite North Mumbai Panthers raising the highest bid to Rs 5 lakh.

The two new teams in the league for this season – Aakash Tigers and Eagle Thane Strikers – had the option to exercise the OTM (Opportunity to Match). Both the teams opted for the OTM at Rs 5 lakh but Arjun went to Aakash Tigers after a draw of cards.

Last year, Arjun represented India U-19 in the unofficial Test played in Sri Lanka and has been active in playing top division leagues in Mumbai.
