The Indian women's cricket team completed a comfortable victory in the fifth and final T20 against South Africa on Saturday. Coming into the game 2-1 up in the series, Harmanpreet Kaur's side registered a 54-run win at Newlands, Cape Town.

The victory was set up by a fine half-century from Mithali Raj. The veteran stitched a 98-run partnership for the second wicket with Jemimah Rodrigues to propel her team to 166/4 batting first. While Mithali made 62 off 50, her 17-year-old partner stroked an impressive 44 off 34. Skipper Harmanpreet chipped in with an unbeaten, quick-fire 27 off 17 at the end.

The Proteas were never in the chase, losing wickets at regular intervals. They were eventually bowled out for 112, with Shikha Pandey, Rumeli Dhar and Rajeshwari Gayakwad picking up three wickets each for the visitors.

Mithali was rightly declared the Woman of the Match and the Woman of the Series. "It's important to give a good start to the team. The first six overs are really crucial. It's always good to be among runs," said the 35-year-old former India captain.

With this triumph, India end the tour of South Africa having won both the T20 and ODI series. In the 50-over format, India notched a 2-1 win in the three-match series. While the shortest format of the game saw the visitors claiming a 3-1 in the five-match series, with the fourth game being washed out. This is a historic moment for the Indian women as it is the first time they have won two series on a single tour of South Africa.

"It was an all-round effort," said skipper Harmanpreet. "When we came here, we weren't thinking about winning or losing. Our performance will give us immense confidence going forward."

Former Indian cricketers Virender Sehwag and VVS Laxman were among the first ones on Twitter to congratulate the women on their victory.
