India have never won a series in Australia so far.
Former Australia leg-spinner Shane Warne has picked his favourite for the 2018-19 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Warne, feels India have a strong chance of beating Australia considering the shambles their batting is in, and firmly believes that Virat Kohli’s India can create history.
“For the first that I can remember India come to Australia in the Test matches as favourites,” Warne said on Fox Cricket. “I think their (Australia’s) batting is in disarray in all forms of the game. They need to do something about it pretty quickly. India, they smell blood and they don’t fear Australia.”
Warne’s commends come after Australia’s loss to South Africa in the one-off T20 match on Saturday. Warne has been extremely vocal about the chaos in Cricket Australia recently and did not hold back from commenting on how poor Australian batting currently looks.
“It’s been poor, hasn’t it. Leading to the shot selection, there’s been no awareness of the game situation, that’s why it’s even more disappointing,” Warne said. “There has to be a reason why they continue to play the wrong shot and the (poor) match awareness. There has to be a reason for that."
“Why suddenly in Australian cricket are the batsmen making these wrong decisions consistently in games in tough situations? They just make the wrong choice with shot selection, just not summing up the game.”
Australia have struggled since the ball tampering scandal that resulted in bans to Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft.
Since the incident back in March, Australia have lost an ODI series to England 0-5, lost to Pakistan 0-1 in Tests, lost the T20I series as well and took a 1-2 beating at the hands of South Africa earlier this week.
India have never won a series in Australia, with arguably their best performance coming in 2003 where they drew the Test series 1-1.
