April 2 will always hold a special place in the heart of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. On this date, in 2011, the cricketer guided India to a World Cup triumph with that historic six at the Wankhede Stadium. And in 2018, he is all set to be conferred with the Padma Bhushan on this same date.

Dhoni will be receiving the prestigious award from the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, at an investiture ceremony at the Rashtrapathi Bhawan in New Delhi on Monday. Not just the former Indian cricket captain, even billiards legend Pankaj Advani will be conferred with the Padma Bhushan.

Earlier this year, on March 20, President Kovind had awarded the first batch of Padma Awards. Tennis player Somdev Devvarman, Indian badminton star Kidambi Srikanth, and 1972 Paralympics gold medalist swimmer Murlikant Petkar were among the attendees in the ceremony then.

This year 85 recipients were selected for the prestigious awards including two duo cases. This includes 3 Padma Vibhushan, 9 Padma Bhushan and 73 Padma Shri awards. Fourteen of the awardees are women, while 16 persons are foreigners and three are being awarded posthumous.

Dhoni and Advani were awarded the Padma Bhushan, but both the players were a no show. Weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu who was awarded Padma Shri was also not present.

The government announced names of the recipients on the eve of the 69th Republic Day, which also included music maestro Ilaiyaraja among the three Padma Vibhushan awardees.

Padma Vibhushan and the Padma Bhushan are the second and third highest civilian awards of the country respectively.
