Dhoni struggled for the better part of his innings on Saturday, but ended with a flourish to guide India to a competitive 289.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni divided Twitter with his batting performance on Saturday.
Coming into the fourth ODI between India and South Africa in Johannesburg, Dhoni might've felt slight pressure after his 22-ball 10 in the last game.

The former Indian captain came in at a critical juncture, with India looking to accelerate after a slight lull in proceedings. Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli's brilliant partnership made a 300-plus total seem totally gettable, but the Proteas kept picking wickets in India's middle-order to keep themselves in the contest.
Dhoni came in to bat in the 37th over and started rather slowly, struggling to rotate the strike. The boundaries flew from his bat only in the last few overs.
By then, however, Twitter was divided over MSD's performance. While some credited Dhoni for holding fort when wickets were falling at the other end, others blamed him for putting pressure on his partners by failing to rotate strike.
Dhoni eventually remained unbeaten at 42 off 43 balls, smashing two boundaries in the last over of the innings. India set South Africa a target of 290 under cloudy skies in Johannesburg.
That bullet by Dhoni reached the boundary before he even hit it

Dhoni 42*(43)
How do you blame Dhoni alone when you don't like his fans giving him all the credit?
Enduring 14 overs of super boredom to see the last ball six from Dhoni.. priceless #INDvSA

His hitting powers are on the wane but still a very important innings from @msdhoni Ind a few short but good total still. #SAvIND #Dhoni

Basically 5 years ago, if India were 120/2 in 25 overs, you'd want Dhoni to bat because he was that good. Over his career, he's probably one of India's three greatest ever limited overs bats. But Dhoni circa-2018 doesn't seem to be that quality of player anymore.

Blaming only Dhoni is not right.

What have these three done Shreyas, Hardik and ROHIT?#SAvIND
Many people got lots of complaints against dhoni. No matter how good he plays, still

And about today's knock Was handy one. but a useful one. For me he didn't Disappoint, He came where India was in a good position, but from the other end, He didn't get support. #SAvIND
India are going to have a problem in the next 12 months. They have to find a replacement for Dhoni. It's hard to see India winning the World Cup with Dhoni as keeper.

Credit should be given to Dhoni for sticking there & got almost a run ball 42.

Saved the team from a collapse. #SAvIND #INDvSA
Problem with Dhoni is he neither comes up at number 4, nor makes fast runs what is expected from number 6 batsman, neither gets out early nor tries to hit boundaries until 49th over.

Indian cricket team selectors should stop selecting players on the basis of other characteristics than the current form. Rohit for talent. Rahane for dependability. Dhoni for his aura.

Dhoni hitting huge singles. #INDvSA

Unreal hate for Dhoni man. This is what a man gets for winning EVERY trophy for his country? Absolutely sick! Saying it since forever, we don't deserve him. #INDvSA

Earlier, opener Shikhar Dhawan's fireworks continued as he struck his 13th One Day International (ODI) century to help India reach 200 in the fourth of the six-match series against South Africa, before the game was halted due to bad weather at the Wanderers Stadium on Saturday.
Opting to bat first, India lost opener Rohit Sharma on just 5, once again becoming the victim of Kagiso Rabada. However, India piled on the misery for injury-hit South Africa with the help of skipper Virat Kohli and Dhawan.
Kohli, who is otherwise enjoying a rich form in the series, lost his wicket for 75 runs as Chris Morris gave the hosts the major breakthrough. Dhawan continued his brilliant inning to hit his 13th hundred in his 100the ODI appearance.
The left-handed batsman achieved the feat off 99 balls. This was Dhawan's third consecutive half-plus score in the series.
The Virat Kohli-led side is leading the series 3-0 and with an aim to write a history here by winning the game and eventually the six-match series, as India have never won a series in South Africa.
