BCCI acting Amitabh Choudhary informs that the final decision on India coach is yet to be taken. Contrary to the reports, BCCI has denied appointing Ravi Shastri as Anil Kumble's successor.

"I think the three who will take a call on the subject are very tall figures. No decision has been made on appointment of new coach. The CAC is still deliberating over it,” he said.

Earlier, reports that Shastri had been appointed head coach of the Indian cricket team, did the rounds. The announcement comes hours after the CAC member Sourav Ganguly told DNA that they would take a few days to announce the coach.

Shastri, who has served as Indian team director from August 2014 to June 2016, shares a healthy rapport with the players including captain Virat Kohli.

He was all set to get a contract extension in July last year before Kumble threw his hat into the ring at the last moment and bowled the CAC panel with a detailed presentation during the interview process.

During Shastri's tenure, India won limited overs series away against England in 2014, reached the semi-finals of the World Cup and World T20 (2015 and 2016 respectively), won away Test series against Sri Lanka, home series against South Africa and T20 away series against Australia.

On Tuesday, speaking to media persons, CAC member Sourav Ganguly said that they will speak to people who matter before they take a final decision. “There is no hurry to appoint the coach, as it is a long-term prospect, at least till the end of the 2019 World Cup,” Ganguly said.

The former India captain added that Virat Kohli stayed out of the entire coaching selection. “Once he (Kohli), the members of the team are on the same page,” Ganguly added.

In a subtle warning to the India captain, Ganguly said once the announcement is made the coach will continue to remain till the end of the 2019 World Cup.

However, despite Ganguly's insistence, CAC chairman Vinod Rai insisted that the role of  coach be announced on Tuesday

The three-member Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman met on Monday to scrutinise candidates for the high-profile job of Indian men's cricket team coach.

For the record, BCCI received 10 CVs -- Shastri, Virender Sehwag, Tom Moody, Richard Pybus, Dodda Ganesh, Lalchand Rajput, Lance Klusener, Rakesh Sharma (Oman national team coach), Phil Simmons and Upendranath Bramhachari (engineer with no cricketing background).
