Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin after dismissing England allrounder Ben Stokes surpassed Harbhajan Singh in an elite list.

The Day 2 of the 2nd Test in Chennai saw Ashwin make the most of the pitch when he dismissed England batsman Dominic Sibley and Daniel Lawrence before Lunch.

Ashwin's twin strikes left the visitors reeling at 39/4 at the end of the first session. Ben Stokes, however, tried to counter-attack in the 2nd session but Ashwin came in and cleaned him up with an absolute beauty.

Ashwin bowled an overpitched delivery around the off stump and Stokes missed the ball as it knocked down the off-stumps. This was Ashwin's 3rd wicket in the match.

This wicket was his 350th international wicket at home. He is only the third Indian bowler to do so after spin greats Anil Kumble (476) and Harbhajan Singh (376).

Ashwin is only behind Kumble who had taken 350 Test wickets in India in 63 matches. Harbhajan had taken 265 wickets in 55 Tests. Joining the trio in the top five are Kapil Dev (219 wickets in 65 Tests) and Ravindra Jadeja (157 wickets in 33 Tests).

England were all out for 134 on day two of the second test against India on Sunday and trail the hosts by 195 runs after the first innings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Ben Foakes, playing his first match of the four-test series, top-scored for the tourists with an unbeaten 42, while Ollie Pope made 22.

India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin led the rout with 5-43, while debutant spinner Axar Patel and seamer Ishant Sharma claimed two wickets apiece.

England had won the opening test by 227 runs. Ahmedabad hosts the third test, a day-night contest, from Feb. 24.
