Prithvi Shaw stars as India A thump England Cricket Board XI in first practice game

India A completed a comprehensive victory against England Cricket Board XI (ECBXI) in the first practice match on Sunday. The Shreyas Iyer-led side won by 125 runs to start their tour with a bang at Headingley, Leeds.

ECBXI skipper Alex Davies won the toss and elected to field on Sunday. India A lost Mayank Agarwal early but their other opener, young Prithvi Shaw, hung in there to get the team's highest score of 70 from 61 balls. The Mumbaikar was his fluent self as he stroked seven boundaries and three sixes in an entertaining knock.

India A eventually got to an impressive 328 for eight in their quota of 50 overs. Other than Shaw, captain Iyer (54) and keeper Ishan Kishan (50) got half-centuries for the Rahul Dravid-coached team.

In reply, ECBXI were bowled out for 203 in 36.5 overs. Matthew Critchley, batting at No.7, top-scored for the hosts with a 48-ball 40. That, however, was never going to be enough as India A romped to victory. New-ball specialist Deepak Chahar was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors, getting three for 48 from 7.5 overs.

India A play will another practice match against Leicestershire on Tuesday, before diving into a tri-series involving England Lions and Windies that starts on Friday at the County Ground in Derby. India A will play two games against each of the other teams before the final on July 2 at the Kennington Oval in London.
