Kolkata Police has written to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) seeking information regarding the movements of Mohammed Shami after his last match in South Africa.

Kolkata Police, which is investigating the Indian fast bowler under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), have written to BCCI seeking information about the his alleged visit to Dubai on the way back to India from the recent tour to South Africa.

According to Shami's wife Hasin Jahan, the pacer had travelled to Dubai after India's tour to South Africa to meet a Pakistani girl. A case has been registered against Shami on the basis of a written complaint filed by his wife, who has claimed that Shami has been having extra-marital affairs and also alleged that he abused her physically and mentally.

Why the letter to BCCI?

Police are  investigating into Jahan's claims that Shami had stayed back in Dubai.

Jahan alleged in her complaint to the police that her husband went to Dubai to meet a Pakistani woman, and concealed the trip from her.

Shami’s wife had earlier said Shami received money from a Pakistani girl named Alishba and maybe involved in fixing. “Alishba is a Pakistani citizen and Shami claimed that she gave him money. I have never been told by Shami for what purpose that money was given. I don’t know but if he can fraud me he can fraud the country too,” Hasin said in a TV interview.

BCCI keeps track of its players while they are on tour. Players also usually inform the cricket board of any detour they make.

Shami has been charged under various non-bailable and bailable sections of the IPC, including Section 498A, which deals with cruelty to a woman by her husband or his relatives, Section 307 - attempt to murder, Section 323 - punishment for voluntarily causing hurt, Section 376 - rape, Section 506 - criminal intimidation, Section 328 and Section 34.

He has rejected all the allegations and said someone is misleading his wife.

Shami has vehemently denied allegations of match-fixing made by his wife Hasin Jahan. The Team India fast bowler said that he would rather die than do something like this.

He said, "As far as the allegation of compromising my performance playing for the country is concerned, I  would rather die than do something like this."

“If Mohammed Shami can cheat me then he can cheat the country as well. He accepted money from a Pakistani girl named Alisbah in Dubai. He agreed to accept it on the insistence of England-based Mohammed Bhai. I have proof,” Jahan had told a TV channel.
