Former BCCI president N Srinivasan is back in business and this time he has overwhelming support of nearly two-third state associations (22 out of 30 states), allowing him to take head on with the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (COA) over issue of Board staring at huge revenue loss due to unimaginative thinking on part of the officials handling it.

On a day when BCCI acting president CK Khanna and treasurer Anirudh Chaudhry were also briefly present to show their support to all state associations, the attendance of Gujarat's member of parliament Parimal Nathwani created a buzz as he is supposed to be close confident of the ruling party president and Gujarat Cricket Association president, Amit Shah.

Those who didn't take part in the meeting include Maharashtra as its current head Abhay Apte is a close confidant of Shashank Manohar. UP, Vidarbha, Tripura, Mumbai, Assam, Jharkhand and Universities also chose to stay away from the meeting.

DNA has reliably learnt from insiders that all 22 members who were present at a five-star hotel here — 14 members present while the other eight took part via video conference — raised fingers at SC-appointed COA's motives to reduce the minimum bid value for bilateral and domestic events in India, which is up for renewal shortly.

All the members maintained that "no order of the SC so far in the case has given such sweeping powers to act opaquely and independently on a matter of such great financial magnitude". The members then went on to list 10 contentious points, where they felt the COA was not taking the office-bearers nor that of the general body into confidence before arriving on important decisions.

The prime issue among them is the media rights for domestic and bilateral series to take place in India between April 1, 2018 and March 31, 2023. The COA, in its tender, has said the television tender will be sold for Rs 33 crore, which is Rs 10 crore less than what BCCI has been earning in the existing contract.

The issue of authorising CFO and General Manager (Cricket Operations) to operate the bank accounts was also raised. But the matter of COA member Diana Edulji approving one-time benefit to her sister and failing to disclose this as a transaction with any interested party was hotly debated inside, calling it conflict of interest on her part.

Last but not the least, the discussion regarding Shashank Manohar's expected exit as the chairman of ICC also came in for detailed discussions.

The members also asked the CoA whether ICC has paid the BCCI's share of revenue for hosting events that have taken place. "If no, what steps have been taken to recover the share of the BCCI," asked the members.
