Former India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the highest taxpaying individual in Jharkhand for the financial year of 2017-18. Dhoni paid Rs 12.17 crore income tax last fiscal which is the highest income tax paid by an individual in the Bihar and Jharkhand region.

Dhoni paid Rs 1.24 crore more than 2016-17 when he had paid Rs 10.93 crore as income tax, media reports quoted senior income tax officials as saying. However, he was not the highest taxpayer in that fiscal.

According to Forbes, Dhoni is the third highest earning cricketer in India behind Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar. Forbes India's list of the celebrities with highest earnings in 2017 has listed him at No.8 in the country with estimated earnings of Rs. 63.7 crore.

Dhoni has launched his apparel line SEVEN in 2017. He also co-owns the Chennayin FC football franchise in the Indian Super League. He is also joint owner of Ranchi Rays franchise in the Hockey India League.

Dhoni recently led Chennai Super Kings to the Indian Premier League title. However, his Team India future has been fodder for speculation after a none-so-bright performance against England in the recent ODI and T20I series.

Dhoni was seen seeking the match ball at the end of the lost third ODI against England in Headingley. This sparked speculations that Dhoni may retire after the series. However, sources in the team management have dismissed the talk as “rumours”.

Dhoni retired stunningly from Test cricket in the middle of India’s 2014 tour of Australia.
