Virat Kohli attracted massive criticisms when he made a controversial comment to a fan, who suggested he enjoyed watched English and Australian batsmen more than the Indians.

The fan’s opinion irked the Indian captain who ended up asking the fan to consider migrating from India if he didn’t enjoy watching his countrymen play cricket as much as the overseas players.

“Okay, I don’t think you should live in India then… you should go and live somewhere else no. Why are you living in our country and loving other countries? I don’t mind you not liking me, but I don’t think you should live in our country and like other things. Get your priorities right.”

Considering Kohli himself endorses international brands like Puma, Audi, Tissot, angry fans lashed out at Kohli for his hypocritical behaviour.

Even the BCCI officials showed displeasure over Kohli’s shocking comment, the Indian captain did receive some support.

One of the guys to stand up for Kohli was former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif who took to Twitter to defend the Indian skipper.

“The unfair targeting of Kohli just shows how statements are twisted according to whatever suits the agenda of people. He has publicly in the past admired sportsman from across the globe & his statement clearly was in a certain context. But mischievous targeting is a norm for a few,” Kaif tweeted.

Meanwhile, Harsha Bhogle speaking against Kohli’s leave India comment tweeted, “Virat Kohli's statement is a reflection of the bubble that most famous people either slip into or are forced into. The voices within it are frequently those that they wish to hear. It is a comfortable bubble and that is why famous people must try hard to prevent it from forming.

That is also why contrary opinions are frowned upon. Power and fame tend to attract those people who agree with you and reinforce your opinion because they benefit from proximity to fame and power.”
