Austin Waugh, son of former Australian captain Steve Waugh, is ready to make the most of his potential in the upcoming ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup.

"I am aiming to test myself against the best players from around the world. I want to make the most of my potential and see how far it can take me. All three formats attract me as I enjoy testing my skills and being able to adapt from format to format," the junior Waugh said.

Austin first burst into public consciousness when he hit an unbeaten 122 in the final of the Under-17 National Championships in 2016. He represented Australia U-19s in a one-day series against Sri Lanka’s youth side earlier this year.

Waugh likens his game to India all-rounder Hardik Pandya and admires late Australia batsman Phil Hughes for his "free flowing technique."

In the same tournament, which is to be held from January 13 to February 3 in New Zealand, Makhaya Ntini's son Thando Ntini is also set to play the World Cup.

The side led by Jason Sangha also includes Will Sutherland, son of Cricket Australia’s (CA) chief executive James Sutherland. Sutherland Jr is the vice-captain of the side.

Australia are slotted into Group B, and will open their campaign against India on January 14 in Mount Maunganui. The other teams in Group B are Zimbabwe and Papua New Guinea.
