Cricket is a great leveller! Arjun Tendulkar had a dream debut for India U-19 when he took a wicket in his final ball of the second over during first  U-19 test match against Sri Lanka in Colombo on Tuesday. However, on Thursday, the junior Tendulkar making his baby steps in international cricket was out for duck, in his first innings. He played 11 balls before dismissed by Dulshan with Pasindu taking his catch. India U-19 though continued to dominate against Sri Lanka U-19 thanks to tons from A Badoni (185),  A Taide (113) and decent contributions from Wadhera and Rawat who scored half-centuries. India U-19 were dismissed for 589. In the first innings, Sri Lanka U-19 scored 244.

Incidentally, there is a parallel between today's innings from Arjun Tendulkar and that of his legendary father Sachin Tendulkar's first ODI innings. Sachin Tendulkar, all of 16 had a good test series but he scored a duck, dismissed by Waqar Younis in his first ODI innings. He was subsequently dropped from the ODI team. Sachin scored zero in his second innings too. But team management didn't lose faith in the young prodigy, and the rest is history.  The difference though is Arjun is a bowler unlike his father.

Earlier, reacting to Arjun Tendulkar taking a wicket for India U-19, Vinod Kambli said on Twitter, " Tears of joy rolled down when I saw this, have seen him grow up and put in the hard work in his game. Could not be more happy for you, Arjun. This is just the beginning, I wish you tons and ton of success in the days to come. Cherish your first wicket and enjoy the moment".

The second Youth Test will begin from July 24 in Hambantota while the ODIs begin from July 30 in Colombo and will be played till August 10. Arjun Tendulkar has been selected for the test matches only.
