Arise Sir Lewis Hamilton! The seven-time Formula One champion has been officially knighted in the Queen’s New Year Honours List for his phenomenal achievement in the sport of Formula One. Lewis Hamilton enjoyed a magnificent 2020 F1 season as he overhauled the record of Michael Schumacher for the most wins in the sport while he also equaled the German legend for the maximum of number of titles with seven. Lewis Hamilton has 95 wins in F1 as compared to Michael Schumacher’s 91 and he will be determined to register 100 wins and his 8th F1 title in 2021 to stamp his authority as one of the greatest drivers in the history of F1.

In 2020, Lewis Hamilton was listed in TIME Magazine as one of the 100 most influential people globally. Lewis Hamilton has also been vocal on the Black Lives Matter movement. His stance against racism and push for diversity in motorsport has resulted in the official Formula One website describing him as an ‘inspirational role model and ideal ambassador of the profession’

Magnificent 2020

Lewis Hamilton broke the record set by Michael Schumacher when he won the Portuguese Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton also clinched the title with three rounds to spare when he won the Turkish Grand Prix in Istanbul as he dominated the season.

Lewis Hamilton is also a record holder when it comes to podium finishes, most points ever secured in a F1 racing season as well as the most consecutive race finishes with 48. In the 2020 season, he missed the Bahrain Grand Prix after contracting the coronavirus but he ended the season on the ultimate high.

Although Lewis Hamilton has not yet signed a contract extension with Mercedes in 2021, there is hope that he will extend his tenure with Mercedes who are the seven-time constructors champions. The 2021 F1 season will begin in March in Australia and Lewis Hamilton will be bidding to become the first driver to register 100 F1 wins in the new season. F1 will also be hoping to have the full season after the 2020 season witnessed a curtailed calendar with only 17 races and was held primarily in Europe and the Middle East due to the coronavirus pandemic.
