The official player auction for the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2020 is underway on Monday (October 19) as 438 players became available to be signed. All five LPL franchises - Colombo Kings, Dambulla Hawks, Galle Gladiators, Jaffna Stallions and Kandy Tuskers - went head to head against each other to secure the signature of globe starts.
The Lanka Premier League is scheduled to be played from November 21 to December 13, 2020, at two venues--Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy and Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota.
Along with all key current international players from Sri Lanka, 75 foreign players also were in the Players Draft to be picked by the five franchises.
The auctions had some big foreign names in Andre Russell, Faf du Plessis, David Miller, Chris Gayle, Mohammad Amir, Shahid Afridi etc. Other than that, Indian cricketers in Manvinder Bisla and Manpreet Gony also will be part of the tournament.
The draft was held online and in attendance during the draft were IPG CEO Anil Mohan, SLC VP Ravin Wickramaratne, SLC CEO Ashley de Silva, franchise owners, and head coaches of each team.
