A charge sheet against cricketer Mohammed Shami was filed by the Kolkata Police in the Alipore Court on Thursday.

Sources said that the charge sheet mentioned the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 498A (domestic violence) and 354A (sexual harassment).

Salim Rahman, Shami's lawyer, said that three allegations of rape (against Shami's elder brother), attempt to murder and physical assault had been excluded in the charge sheet. "There are two charges of domestic violence and sexual abuse. We will take legal steps once the court summon is issued," he said.

Hasin Jahan, Shami's wife, had lodged a complaint against Shami and his elder brother Hasib Ahmed on March 8, 2018. Shami had denied all charges of threat, infidelity and dowry demand. Later that month, Jahan's secret statement was recorded before a magistrate at the Alipore Court and in April that year, she had filed a petition demanding monthly maintenance of Rs 10 lakh for herself and her daughter.

She had also leveled charges, against Shami, of match-fixing and taking money from a Pakistan national, named Alishba, following which a team of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had initiated a probe. However, he was acquitted of the match-fixing charges.

In March 2018, Jahan had also met West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and handed her an appeal. After the meeting, which had lasted for about half an hour, she had told mediapersons that the CM had assured all cooperation to ensure that justice prevails.
