Cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has expressed his anger at the rape and murder of a eight-year old girl in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua.

He prayed for the soul of the victim. He wondered how people could resort to such inhumanity. He said that such people should be tortured in front of the world so they understand the pain of the victim.

He wrote, "Pata nahi kaise log aisi harkhat kar sakte hain. Duniya ke aagey inko tadpa tadpa ke maarna chaiyeh taaki in jaise logon ko pata chale kya halat hoti hai kisi ke sath aisa karne ki."

The Kathua case relates to an eight-year-old girl from the nomadic Bakerwal Muslim community who had disappeared from near her home in a village near Kathua in the Jammu region on January 10. Her body was found in the same area a week later.

The girl was allegedly raped by six men, who had held her in captivity in a small village temple in Kathua district for a week in January, was kept sedated and sexually assaulted once again before she was bludgeoned to death, reveals the charge sheet in the case.

The abduction, rape and killing of the Bakherwal girl was part of a carefully planned strategy to remove the minority nomadic community from the area, reveals the 15-page charge sheet filed by the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Crime Branch in the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court here on Monday.

A Special Investigation Team formed to probe the incident has arrested eight people, including two Special Police Officers (SPOs) and a head constable, who was charged with destroying evidence.

Two BJP ministers in Jammu and Kashmir government who allegedly attended a rally in favour of accused submitted his resignation to state party leadership.
