Great going for KXIP.
It seems like after failing to win 1PL in the first 10 seasons, KXIP is desperate to change the record in this season. And the first step towards it is getting the players good enough to get them. And Preity Zinta led KXIP with Sehwag as coach look determined to get their act right this time around.
They have bought some pretty big names so far in this year's IPL. KXIP got R Ashwin earlier for Rs 7.60 crores. Yuvraj Singh was bought for Rs 2 crore. Later they snapped up two of India's premier batters KL Rahul and Karun Nair. Both are good friends and hail from Karnataka. Karun Nair played for DD last season, whereas Rahul was part of the star studded RCB contingent. But in this year, both will be playing for KXIP. Karun Nair was bought for Rs 5.60 crore.Nair scored two centuries in the recently concluded Mushtaq Ali trophy, and that certainly helped to jack up his price.
There was intense bidding for KL Rahul who lit up IPL last season. MI, SRH, RR initially started bidding for KL Rahul. Just when it looked that SRH will get him for Rs 6.2 crore, entered KXIP in the fray. And that triggered an intense price war. SRH and KXIP finally were in fray and KXIP got him for Rs 11 crore. RCB had the option of using RTM, but they him go.
Aaron Finch, another handy Australian batter has been bought by KXIP. He was bought from Rs 6.2 crore after strong bidding across IPL franchises. David Miller was initially bought by Mumbai Indians for Rs 3 crore, but KXIP trumped them by using the RTM card. Finally Preity managed to use RTM card, after being at the receiving end through out the morning.
Stoinis was bought for whopping Rs 6.2 crore and Mayank Agarwal for Rs 1 crore.
What KXIP need is good bowlers. With Rs 24.9 crore still in quota, they have the chance of catching up and getting good bowlers in their ranks.
