Steve Smith and David Warner have been banned from playing for Australia for 12 months as a result of Cricket Australia's investigation into the ball-tampering incident, according to media reports.

Cameron Bancroft is set to receive a 9-month ban for the incident. They can also appeal the ban in next 7 days.

This also means that these players will not be able to play in the upcoming season of Indian Premier League.

BCCI mandate doesn't allow players banned from their cricket board to participate in the IPL.

BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary has confirmed Smith and Warner will not be a part of IPL 2018.

Smith and Warner were supposed to captain their respective franchises Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad in this edition but had stepped down in the wake of the scandal and CA's sanction paved the way for BCCI to ban the duo.

"They (Cricket Australia) have banned two players and we are also barring these two players from this year's IPL," IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla told reporters.

"We wanted everything in our own hands. First, we waited for ICC's decision, after that Cricket Australia and then we decided on the matter.

"We have decided to bar them from this season. The replacements will be made available to the two teams. We did not take any decision in haste, it was a well thought out decision," he added.

According to a CricketNext report, Smith and Warner were automatically out of IPL 2018 after receiving the ban.

“...There is no way that the IPL franchises can accommodate them, just like Andre Russell had to skip the IPL after he was caught violating doping clauses. If CA says that they have decided to ban the two players, that is where it all ends for them as far as IPL 11 is concerned. The IPL GC actually has no role,” the report quoted a senior BCCI official as saying.

David Warner has stepped down as the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad earlier on Wednesday while Steve Smith too had stepped down from the position of Rajasthan Royals' captain.

Steve Smith, Cameron Bancroft and Warner has been involved in hatching a plan to alter the condition of the ball during the third Test against South Africa in Cape Town.

Earlier, Cricket Australia had announced that Smith, Warner and Bancroft will be sent back home on Wednesday.
