Steve Smith and David Warner have reportedly been handed a 12-month ban by Cricket Australia (CA) for their involvement in the ball-tampering scandal that took place during the third Test of the ongoing four-match series against South Africa in Cape Town.

BCCI too barred Steve Smith and David Warner from taking part in this year's IPL. Their respective teams Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad will be allowed to replace them. RR and SRH will be able to pick from players who went unsold at the 2018 IPL Auction.

Joe Root

Joe is the most likely choice to replace Steve Smith at Rajasthan Royals. The England batsman went unsold at the 2018 IPL auction. It was the first time he registered himself for the auction to be a part of the T20 league.

Root is considered one of the best batsmen of this generation with Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson and Smith.

Root is a like-for-like replacement for Steve Smith- he has also captained his side for a long time and he also bats at number three.

Martin Guptill

Why Martin Guptill? Well, why not. Guptill is the leading run-scorer in T20Is with 2271 runs. Everybody wondered why he was not in IPL after he scored the fastest T20I hundred a few days ago.

The New Zealand opener has found himself unsold at the 2018 IPL auction.

However, the experienced man can get another chance. As an opener, he will be an ideal choice to replace David Warner at Sunrisers Hyderabad. He can also join Rajasthan freeing Rahane to bat at No.3.

Luke Ronchi

Luke Ronchi is the man in form. Ronchi went unsold at the 2018 IPL auction but has been on a course of destruction since. He set the PSL on fire helping his team win the title and earned the Player of the Tournament award.

Ronchi is also a reliable wicketkeeper.

Hashim Amla

Hashim Amla went unsold in the 2018 IPL Auction. However, the South African opener is a very potent force in the T20 format. He is one of the very few players to have hit two IPL 100s. He can be a very dangerous force for any team at the top and will another great option for Sunrisers Hyderabad to replace Warner.

Shaun Marsh

Shaun Marsh has been one of the most successful IPL openers. He played for Kings XI Punjab outfit for the first ten seasons before he was released from the side ahead of the 2018 IPL auction.

He has scored 2477 runs in 71 IPL matches at an average of 40 and a strike-rate of 132.74 so far.

He also won the first-ever Orange Cap. He will be an ideal partner Shikhar Dhawan at the top of the order for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
