IPL 2018 saw the introduction of the mid-season transfers in the Indian Premier League. For the first time, a short five-day transfer window has been crated on the lines of league football.

The mid-season transfer was supposed to help franchises offload players who have not been utilised or fill in some gaps in their squads.

However, it seems no team is very interested in the mid-season transfer window. The window has been active since Match 28 and will be active till Match 42. However, none of the franchises have made any moves towards trading players.

This window is open for uncapped players. Capped players who have played more than two matches till the halfway stage of the tournament can not be traded. This rules out trading of any big names.

“There are few grey areas. A number of franchises already have 25 players in the squad, so they are unlikely to make use of this mid-season loan transfer,” an official of a franchise told India Today.

“If a big name was available we would have looked into it, but the current lot doesn’t peak our interest,” another franchise official added.

Still there are some big players like David Willey, Moeen Ali, Parthiv Patel, Adam Milne and Carlos Brathwaite who have not played a single game for their franchise. They can be picked by other franchises.

It will be interesting to see if any team goes forward to make use of the window.
