Kings XI Punjab's (KXIP) Chris Gayle and KL Rahul overtook Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli at the top of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 Orange Cap list on Saturday.
At the end of Match 18 of IPL 2018, Gayle sat on top of the run-scorers list, followed closely by Rahul and Kohli. The KXIP openers got to the top after playing match-winning knocks in their side's nine-wicket victory against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Saturday.
KKR might've lost the match, but they have the most number of players in the top ten leading run-scorers after Match 18 of IPL 11 - Dinesh Karthik, Chris Lynn, Nitish Rana and Andre Russell.
Gayle's rise to the top of the chart has been phenomenal. The West Indian was dropped in the first two matches of KXIP's campaign, but has smashed a hat-trick of fifties since he was roped into the side. His unbeaten 62 on Saturday ensured a comfortable win for for the Punjab outfit. The result also meant KXIP topped the points table, leapfrogging Chennai Super Kings.
Gayle was the first centurion of IPL 2018 when he smashed the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers out of the park earlier this week. His and Rahul's opening combination is perhaps the most dangerous one in the T20 tournament.
