Gautam Gambhir will captain Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League 2018.

Gambhir, who won two IPL trophies with Kolkata Knight Riders, returned to the IPL franchise based in his home city of Delhi as their captain ahead of the 11th season.

Gambhir had left Daredevils after 2010 after having led them that year.

"I am more excited than I have ever been," Gambhir said on his return to Daredevils.

Gambhir had played three seasons for Daredevils so far.

There was not much doubt about his return as captain ever since the Delhi franchise bought the left-hander in the IPL 2018 auction for 2.8 crore. Gambhir was not retained by Kolkata Knight Riders before the auction.

He is the most successful captain in Delhi Daredevils history with a win ration of 57.14 per cent. He is also the second most successful IPL captain with 70 wins 123 matches. Only MS Dhoni (83 wins in 143 matches) is ahead of him.

Last year, Gambhir had also said that he wanted to finish with a stint at Daredevils. "I think my heart is still with Delhi," Gambhir said last year.

"I played for three years for Delhi. Somewhere, deep within my heart, I'd love to finish with Delhi. Though I am the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders, and would want them to win it for the third time, but since I'm a Delhi boy too, I obviously want Delhi Daredevils to do well as well."
