The national selection committee is set to meet on in Mumbai to choose the squads for Team India’s tour of the West Indies on Sunday.

The meeting of the selection committee got postponed on Friday and a new date was agreed upon after the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) decided to bend the long-standing rule of The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) where the board secretary stood as the convenor for all selection discussions.

However, the CoA handed over that power to the chief of selectors, MSK Prasad.

According to several reports, a delay in the process happened due to the COA’s directive.

“The change in the rule announced by the CoA means that the Secretary will not convene the meeting and that is behind the delay as that has led to some complexities which need to be addressed,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying.

A senior BCCI official during an interview raised questions over the three-member CoA, comprising of Vinod Rai, Diana Edulji and Lt Gen Ravi Phodge for not being aware of the board’s constitution.

“The new Constitution of the BCCI has been mandated by the Supreme Court and in that regard it is correct that it must be followed. Why did it dawn on the CoA now after nearly about a year since it was registered? What triggered this awakening? Do they not know what is happening in the board?” the official said.

Team India start their Windies series with two T20Is in Florida on August 3rd and 4th, before moving out to the Caribbean for the final T20I on August 6th, followed by 3 ODI matches on August 8th, 11th and 14th. The two teams will then lock horns for two Test matches, from August 22nd at North Sound and on August 30th in Jamaica.
