India women beat New Zealand in 2nd ODI, clinch series

Indian women defeated New Zealand by eight wickets in the second ODI to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series in Mount Maunganui on Tuesday.

Indian women defeated New Zealand by eight wickets in the second ODI to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series in Mount Maunganui on Tuesday.

Batting first, the White Ferns managed to score 161 runs in 44.2 overs. New Zealand skipper Amy Satterthwaite top-scored for her side with 71 runs off 87 balls.

Her knock was inclusive of nine fours. The next batter for the hosts was Leigh Kasperek with 47-ball 21 runs. 

Fast bowler Jhulan Goswami led the bowling attack with three wickets to her name, while the other wickets were shared between Ekta Bisht, Deepti Sharma, Poonam Yadav and Shikha Pandey. 

In reply to New Zealand's paltry target of 167, Smriti Mandhana and Mithali Raj remained unbeaten on 90 and 63. India lost two early wickets when the likes of Jemimah Rodrigues was dismissed for a duck and Deepti for eight. 

The third and final ODI, which will be a dead-rubber fixture now, will be played on Friday at the Seddon Park, Hamilton.
