India’s pace duo of Umesh Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah and spinner Kuldeep Yadav have been rested for the third Twenty20 International (T20I) between India and West Indies scheduled to be played in Chennai, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Friday.

The Indian board released a press release which said: “the decision has been made to allow the trio to be in the best physical condition ahead of India’s tour to Australia.”

The All-India Senior Selection Committee has added Siddarth Kaul to India’s squad for the final T20I.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma will be eyeing to clinch a special milestone in the shortest format.

India’s stand-in-skipper, who smashed a century in the previous match, went past New Zealand’s Colin Munro to become the only batsman to have hit four T20I centuries.

Rohit, who has scored 2,203 runs so far in the T20Is, is just 69 runs away from piping another New Zealander, Martin Guptill as the leading run-scorer in the T20Is.

If the Mumbai batsman manages to get ahead of Guptill, it will be the first time that an Indian will be on top, in terms of runs scored, across all three international formats – Tests, ODIs and T20Is.

Legendary Sachin Tendulkar has been the leading run-scorer in Test cricket ever since he got past the great contemporary Brian Lara and then he has sat atop of the runs chart in ODI cricket as well since going past neighbouring rival Mohammed Azharuddin’s record in the early 2000s.

Since the inception of the T20Is, no Indian batsman has held the pole position in terms of runs scored so if Rohit manages to go past Guptill, it would certainly mark a significant achievement in Indian cricket and Chennai would hope to witness that on Sunday.

India’s squad for the 3rd T20I series against Windies: Rohit Sharma (c), Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Manish Pandey, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Krunal Pandya, Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed, Shahbaz Nadeem, Siddarth Kaul
