West Indies opener Chris Gayle is all set to break a massive record when his side locks horns against India in the second ODI of the three-match series at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad on Sunday.
The southpaw is just 7 runs away of surpassing legendary Brian Lara to become the highest run-getter for West Indies in the 50-overs format.
Lara scored 10,48 runs in 295 ODIs. Gayle - who was dismissed for 4 in the rain-spoilt first ODI - has 10,342 runs at the moment in the ODIs in 295 matches.
Most runs for West Indies:
Brian Lara | 10,348 |
Chris Gayle | 10,342 |
Shivnarine Chanderpaul | 12,408 |
Desmond Haynes | 8,648 |
Vivan Richards | 6,721 |
If Gayle manages to score a century and end up with 107 runs, he will also become the leading run-scorer for Windies against India in ODIs.
Gayle is currently at the fifth spot with Desmond Haynes on top with 1,357 runs.
Heavy rain at the Providence Stadium in Guyana had got the 1st ODI match between India and West Indies abandoned after just 13 overs. The Windies would want to capitalize on the opportunity after losing the T20 series. The ODIs have already been cut short and are now down to two games.
