India vs West Indies 2nd Test: BCCI releases update on Shardul Thakur's injury

Debutant fast bowler Shardul Thakur, who had to go off field owing to a groin injury, will not return to the ground on Day One of the ongoing second Test against West Indies.

Giving out further information, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that the 26-year-old has gone for scans and would not return to the field today. His participation in the rest of the match will depend on his medical reports, the statement added.

"Shardul Thakur has gone for scans. He will not take the field today. An update on his participation for the rest of the Test will be taken after looking at the scans and after being assessed by the team management," the statement read.

The pacer, who was handed over the Test cap by coach Ravi Shastri on Friday, bowled just 1.4 overs before leaving the ground due to pain in the groin region.

Thakur had been included in the Test squad at the place of pacer Mohammed Shami, who was rested after playing six consecutive Test matches for India.
