Kuldeep Yadav, the 26-year old left-arm googly bowler, who finally got a chance and played the second Test against England in the ongoing four-match series, was left out of the playing XI of his side for the third Test at the Motera Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Kuldeep, who took just two wickets in the match didn't do much wrong in the game but found himself on the bench again as the off-spinning all-rounder Washington Sundar came back into the side at his expense. Sundar, who played the first game, didn't take a single wicket, however, made crucial 85 runs in the second innings to help India reduce the monumental deficit.

Talking about the same at the toss of the match, Kohli explained that the reason behind the swap was that they needed someone with the ability to provide some runs with the bat. India's tail hasn't been successful in the last two Tests in keeping the England bowlers at bay, apart from the magnificent century by the off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in the second innings of the second Test.

"We wanted to have a spinning option and Washi (Sundar) provides a lot with the bat as well. And having a cushion with the bat helps especially in this situation when we bat second as the game could be evened out after the first innings," Kohli said giving the reason behind the change.

England had won the toss and chose to bat in the Day-night Test. While England made four changes getting James Anderson, Jofra Archer, Jonny Bairstow and Zak Crawley back in the line-up, India made one more change apart from Kuldeep as pacer Jasprit Bumrah was back in the side at the expense of Mohammed Siraj.
