Former Australian cricketer and current commentator Kerry O'Keeffe was slammed on Twitter after he belittled Mayank Agarwal and Indian domestic circuit in First-Class cricket during Day one of the third Test on Wednesday.

While discussing India's debutant, Mayank, O'Keeffe, on air for Fox Cricket with Shane Warne and Mark Howard questioned the quality of Indian First-Class cricket tournament, Ranji Trophy when he said, in a very insulting manner, "Mayank Agarwal may have scored his 304 against 'some canteen staff or waiters."

However, the former Aussie leg-spinner, O'Keeffe later cleared the air as he apologised for his comments.

"I was mentioning the runs Agarwal got in First-Class cricket in India and there’s been a reaction. There was no way I was demeaning the standard, it was tongue in cheek. There are lots of runs scored so apologies if anyone out there took offence,” he said.

Mark Waugh was also criticised after he said a batting average of 50 in Indian domestic cricket was like 40 in Australia. He too clarified his comments after a backlash on Twitter.

Mayank became the seventh Indian to score a fifty on Test debut before he was dismissed for 76 from 161 balls on the opening day of the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. At stumps of Day one, India were 215 for 2 with Virat Kohli (47) and Chesteshwar Pujara (68) at the crease.
