India take on Australia in the first Twenty20 International (T20I) on Wednesday at the Gabba, Brisbane.

Going into the three-match T20I series, India have plenty of positives to boost their confidence, while the hosts have only nightmare-ish numbers in recent times.

Talking about Australia, they have a new captain in Aaron Finch and they will be without their senior batsmen David Warner, their explosive openers, and Steven Smith who are still serving their bans following the ball-tampering scandal.

Australia have lost five of their last six T20Is and they recently suffered their worst phase in the One-Day Internationals (ODIs) too after losing their 18th ODI in 21 matches. In the same time, they even lost an unprecedented seven ODI series on the trot.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli-led India have won 13 off the 16 T20Is they have played so far in 2018. This includes a 2-1 series win in South Africa in February, the Tri-Series Nidahas Trophy title triumph in Sri Lanka, a 2-0 series win over Ireland, 2-1 in England and most recently 3-0 over West Indies at home. This gives India a win-loss ratio of 4.33, second best for all teams in 2018.

Only top-ranked Pakistan, with 17 wins out of 19 T20Is, have a better win-loss ratio.

India have tasted so much success in the shortest format despite the fact that they were without their best batsman and captain Kohli for most of the times. Interestingly, Kohli in 2018 has played just five T20Is, scoring 146 runs at an average of 24.33. He is yet to score a ton or half-century in the 20-over format for India this year.

If you look at India's T20I record Down Under, it is pretty positive-looking prior to the much-awaited three-T20I series, starting Wednesday. India have lost two matches on the Australian soils to their four wins, out of which three came in the historical clean-sweep of 3-0 in 2016.

India's stand-in-skipper in the absence of Kohli, Rohit Sharma, who recently became the first Indian captain to have won two three-match T20I series by a margin of 3-0, is still eyeing the long-awaited record on the personal level.

Rohit, who has 2,207 runs in T20Is, is 64 runs away from overtaking New Zealand's Martin Guptill as the leading run-scorer of the T20Is.

In the bowling department, Jasprit Bumrah is a few wickets away from clinching a huge landmark for India in the shortest format. Bumrah, who has 46 wickets to his name in the T20I so far, is four wickets away from entering the 50-wicket club for India in the format. Only Ravichandran Ashwin has 50 or more wickets for India in the T20Is.

On the other hand, Shikhar Dhawan is only five runs away from pipping Pakistan's Fakhar Zaman (576 runs) for becoming the leading run-scorer in the T20Is in 2018. Dhawan's opening partner Rohit is not far away as Rohit is 12 runs away from doing the same.
