Afghanistan lost 20 wickets in a single day as India posted their biggest victory by an innings and 262 runs on Friday.

Afghanistan's batsmen crumbled under the pressure and were bowled out for 109 and 103 in their first two innings in test cricket on the second day of their historic test against India.

India had posted a strong 474 in the first innings and spinner Ravichandran Ashwin led the team's blistering bowling attack, which dismantled Afghanistan's batting order to strike the visitors out for a paltry 109 in the post-lunch session.

The hosts, positioned atop the ICC's test rankings, enforced a follow-on and their bowlers excelled once again as debutants Afghanistan limped to 103 all out in the final session.

Earlier, Afghanistan’s No. 10 batsman Mujeeb-Ul-Rahman smashed his country’s first-ever six in Test cricket followed it by two consecutive boundaries before he stumped by Dinesh Karthik, ending Afghanistan’s maiden Test innings at 109.

Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin led the bowling attack with four wickets to his name, while the other scalps were shared between Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja and a run out.

Mohammad Nabi’s 44-ball 24 was Afghanistan’s highest individual score in the innings and the next best was by the teenager, Mujeeb, who went after Ravindra Jadeja, showing some excellent timing skills in the 28th over, which turned out to be the last in the innings.

Afghanistan’s batting debut in Test cricket turned out to be horrendous as they were bowled out inside a session, in reply to hosts India’s 474 runs in the first innings.

The World No. 1 side, after putting up an excellent show with the bat, proved to be dominant with the ball as well. Bowling being Afghanistan’s strength, it was expected Afghanistan would struggle in the batting department but the way they suffered a batting collapse is somhting they will want to forget as soon as possible.

It all started with some superb fielding from Hardik Pandya, who got rid of Afghan opener Mohammad Shahzad. With not long intervals in between, one after another, Indian bowlers had made breakthroughs.

Earlier, Afghanistan had bowled India for 474 runs in 104.5 overs. The fact that the visitors had restricted India under 500, after Indian openers and centurions Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan gave India a flying start, was commendable.

Resuming Day two on 347 for 6, India added another 127 runs before their innings ended. For Afghanistan, Yamin Ahmadzai was the pick of the bowlers with three scalps to his name and was well supported by the likes of Rashid Khan and Wafadar, who bagged two wickets each.
