Electing to bat first, Zimbabwe managed to post 240/9 in their allotted 50 overs. With the target not that daunting, the visitors could have walked away with a comfortable win.
However, openers Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das went back in the hut inside 50 runs. Shakib Al Hasan, who had come to bat at number three, held the innings but regular fall of wickets meant the southpaw was running out of partners.
Shakib in the end got a potent partner in Mohammad Saifuddin and the duo formed a match-winning partnership as they added 69 runs for the eighth wicket.
Bangladesh reached the target in 49.1 overs. Shakib received the Player-of-the-Match award for his all-round show.
