As expected, India captain Virat Kohli gets the rest he has been longing for. Kohli has been rested for the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka that follows the third and final Test in New Delhi from December 2.

With Kohli being rested, limited-overs opening batsman and his deputy Rohit Sharma has been elevated to captaincy and will lead a squad that also sees a new face in Punjab and Sunrisers Hyderabad medium-pacer Siddharth Kaul win his maiden national call-up.

Coming in place of Kohli is Mumbai's exciting batsman Shreyas Iyer, who made his T20I debut against New Zealand at home recently.

All-rounder Hardik Pandya, who has been rested for the Tests, retains his place in the ODIs.

There were no other surprises or changes to the India squad for the three ODIs to be played in Dharamsala (Dec 10), Mohali (Dec 13) and Visakhapatnam (Dec 17).

As reported earlier, Shikhar Dhawan returns to the Test squad in the only addition to the 14 that was present in Nagpur.

However, the Test squad for the South Africa tour, scheduled to be announced on Monday, has been delayed. It was learnt that the selectors will take team's performance in the third Test in New Delhi to account and then announce during the course of that game.

The squad for the T20 series against Sri Lanka will be selected later.
