Talented Karnataka batsman Manish Pandey has made a comeback into the Indian limited overs squad for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka. On the other hand, veteran batter Yuvraj Singh has been axed from the team. Risabh Pant too has failed to make the cut.

The team is as follows:

Virat Kohli (Captain), Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma (vice captain), KL Rahul, Manish Pandey, Ajinkya Rahane, Kedar Jadhav, MS Dhoni (wk), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Shardul Thakur.

BCCI in a communique announced the 15 member team and also declared talented batsman Rohit Sharma as the deputy to captain Kohli. Despite speculations, selectors have kept their faith on veteran keeper and former skipper MS Dhoni. Dinesh Karthik will feel himeself unlucky for missing out despite a good series in West Indies.  In his last seven ODI appearances, Yuvraj has managed only 162 runs and was given bowling only once. His sloppy movement in the field has also been a problem. Pandey was originally a part of the Champions Trophy squad but had to take a break due to an injury sustained during the IPL. He made an impressive comeback, leading India A to a tri- series triumph in South Africa, with 307 runs. He was out only once in five matches. The policy that the Indian selectors have followed is that any cricketer, who was out owing to injury, can come back once he has proved his match fitness.

Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami have been given well deserved rest. Kedar Jadhav is likely to be the back-up keeper if MS Dhoni misses out on any match. India will play 5 ODIs in Sri Lanka. The series starts on August 20 and ends on September 3. The lone T20- I will be played on September 6.
