In a day, which saw high drama with Dean Elgar getting hit, and the day's play got called off, Virat Kohli did what he does the best. Break another record! 

Enroute his hard-fought 41, which was instrumental in getting India to a respectable 247 in their second innings, Virat Kohli also surpassed MS Dhoni as most runs scored as captain of the Indian team. With Kohli scoring 3456 runs, he went past MS Dhoni who had scored 3454 runs as captain. Kohli took just 35 tests to went past MS Dhoni's record who took 60 tests to score 3454. 

At number 3 is Gavaskar who scored 3449 of 47 tests. 

The fourth and fifth place are occupied by Mohd Azharuddin with 2856 runs and Sourav Ganguly with 2541 runs. Azhar played 47 test matches as captain and Sourav Ganguly 49 test matches as Indian skipper. 

Interestingly,  in just 35 matches, Kohli has scored 14 tons, which is also a record among Indian skippers.
